Real Estate Marketing, Episode 30: Top Tips for Creating Your Personal Logo

Hey Everyone!  It’s Christine George, President of Marketing at Leading Edge Real Estate with offices in Boston, Cambridge and all throughout Greater Boston.  Welcome to Episode 30 of Real Estate Marketing!

One of biggest things agents ask for is, a personal logo.  One of the biggest mistakes I see agents make is thinking they’re selling houses.  In reality, you’re selling yourself FIRST, a house second.  So, your logo should reflect you, your personality, your story, your values and your beliefs.  Once your designer understands you, he or she can translate that into a look and feel that’s perfect for you. Think about your current logo and ask yourself, if I were to remove my name and replace it with someone else’s name, would it make a difference?  If the answer is no, then it’s not unique to you!  Today I’m going to share with you 4 tips to get you thinking about your new logo design.

  1. First, write down words that describe you, not words like honest and hard working but real, raw, words that make you unique.  Words like, thoughtful, mindful, open-minded, smart, flexible, warm, introverted yet adventurous all give you as clearer sense of someone. Get started by asking some of your closest friends and family for 3 words to describe you, and maybe find a few words clients have used in their testimonials.
  2. What colors resonate with you? Some agents have built their entire identities around color.  Sue “Pinky” Bensoneven built it into her name. Not only is she always dressed in pink even her hair is pink!  Joe Schuttfrom Unit Realtyhas built his entire identity around the color orange.  Orange is in his name, his logo, and in his wardrobe.  These are things that make you memorable.
  3. What style do you prefer? Are you a solids and stripes kind of person or do you prefer florals and polka dots? Understanding whether you like a more modern look vs. an ornate look will help your designer understand how to structure your logo and what typography to apply.
  4. What images or shapes are you drawn to? Understanding whether you’re attracted to clean lines, angles or 3-dimensional shapes will also help you design a logo that resonates.

The final result should fit like a glove and feel uniquely you.
