Real Estate Marketing Episode 20: How to Differentiate Yourself – Part 1

Hey Everyone!  It’s Christine George, President of Marketing at RE/MAX Leading Edge with offices in Boston, Cambridge and all over Greater Boston. Welcome to Episode 20 of Real Estate Marketing!

One of the most common questions I get is, “How do I differentiate myself?”  “How do I break through the noise?” It’s a great question because there are more than one million REALTORS in the U.S. and that’s a lot of competition but there’s only one YOU!  The next 5 episodes of Real Estate Marketing will focus on how YOU can make YOU shine!

Crush it with Service!  I like to say, give them the “Ritz-Carlton” experience!  The industry is rapidly changing.  Technology and discount brokers are closing in.   But, there will ALWAYS be people who are willing to pay for great service.  In order to set yourself apart, you need to create a personal and memorable experience.  That means,

  1. Ask questions and listen– Asking questions shows you have a genuine interest in your client and listening builds trust. Be careful that you’re not waiting to respond but instead really listening to what they’re saying.  You’ll end up with a client who feels acknowledged and understood, and you’ll have great insights on how you can help solve their problems.
  2. Anticipate what they need before they know they need it.- No one knows the market, the process or the stress of the transaction better than you. You have the vision to see the road blocks long before they do. This is really important and a guaranteed way to impress them.  Bottom line, if your client has to ask, you missed the opportunity.
  3. Be Responsive– Customers today expect a same day response so at the very least, you should be responding within the same business day. If you want to WOW them, then respond within the hour.  This is where having an assistant comes in.  If you’re a busy agent and it’s just not possible to respond quickly to a client need or a new lead coming in, an assistant can take some of burden off your shoulders.
  4. Show you care. Tune into the little details.  Know their spouse’s name, their kid’s names and ages and their pet’s name. Are they gluten free?  Do they prefer tea or coffee? What do they like in their coffee?  Know what’s unique about them. The little things go a long way.  When you remember the details about them, they’ll feel really special.

That’s it for me today.  Make sure to tune in next time for Part 2 of How to Differentiate Yourself!  As always, if you like our Real Estate Marketing vlog, we’d LOVE it if you’d like, comment and share it, check us out at leadingedgeagents.com or like us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or LinkedIn. Thanks so much everyone, enjoy the rest of your day and we’ll see on the next episode of Real Estate Marketing.
