Mug Monday Episode 23: Writing Your Vlog Script

Good Morning Everyone! Welcome to Mug Monday! I’m Emily Dugal, Digital Marketing Manager at Leading Edge Real Estate! If you’ve seen Mug Monday welcome back and if it’s your first time I’m excited to share my myriad of mugs and tips with you! This week’s mug is my squirrel mug.

I recently did a series on shooting a vlog and I wanted to use this episode to dig deeper into scripting a vlog! Scripts are an important part to a vlog series because they help give you a clear outline, it’ll help eliminate unnecessary filler words and it’ll actually give you a written blog post you can repurpose. Find an example blog layout here that you can fill in by clicking here!

Make your scripts bullets and broken down into subsections. Don’t read directly from your script, your audience will be able to tell. If you compared my script to what I say you’d notice they are never the same so feel free to stay flexible with it and do what feels best in the moment. Keep you script propped up near your camera so if you need to glance between shots you can. If you have a video editor be sure to send them your script with your clips. It'll help them with the editing process.

Your Vlog Introduction

My introduction as you may have noticed is always the same with the exception of the mug. You intro should be quick, catchy and tell everyone who you are, who you work for and what your series is about.

Now it’s time to get into what you’ll be discussing. Break your points down into sections and within those sections put sub-bullets which will break down each point.
When writing the script you don’t have to write full sentences if it’ll be easier for you to read without. Shoot for 3-4 points. If you start to get over that consider breaking the piece into multiple episodes and naming them Part 1, Part 2 etc.

Your Vlog Closing

Just like the intro the closing is always the same. Thank people for watching, ask them to engage, invite them to follow you on social media and
where they can find other content or contact you! With all of this have fun, stay relaxed and let your personality shine through
